Luke 9:23-36

The lectionary for today does not include verses 23-27, but they are clearly connected by the call to discipleship – “take up their cross daily and follow me” – and “glory.”  What does it mean to stay awake enough as disciples that we can see and participate in glory?  Is it just pie in the sky or does it have something to do with the here and now?  The transfiguration suggests that the sacred and the profane, the holy and mundane, the there and the here, the then and the now connect in powerful and meaningful ways.
