Matthew 26:26-29
Matthew 26:29 connects the last supper and the Matthean congregation’s participation in the bread and the cup with the eschatological banquet – the setting in which all people recognize, realize, and receive God’s presence and abundance. Qualities of the Realm become realized in and through Matthew’s community and through our community when we gather at the table. The community at the table becomes a community of the Reign of God. Our mission beyond the table includes living as if the Reign of God is present. With Jesus’ presence working through us, we can bring characteristics of the future world into today.
