Mark 6:30-44
With respect to stewardship, the story of the feeding of the 5,000 is both a model and an assurance. It is a model of what Jesus wants disciples to do: put the qualities of the Reign of God into effect (as represented here by feeding the 5,000). This story assures us that God has already provided the resources for doing so. Such a task may seem overwhelming: What? Feed 5,000 in the wilderness? Yet, we can act on what God has given us. When we do so, qualities of God’s reign come alive!
