Psalm 127

Sometimes Psalm 127’s first line is used about the importance of church buildings and institutions.  It serves as a reminder that God’s purposes must underlie all we build and do together.  This Psalm begins from an even deeper place, I think.  It refers to our personal and corporate relationships and systems.  “House” in ancient Israel was a way of talking about families and their structures and relationships.  You can see the concern for this kind of “house” in verses 3-5.  How can we turn anew to God as we consider the building up of our church family?  What relationships and structures will we examine and open for renewal?  What will it mean for us as people of faith to be a part of the house God is building in the world?  What gifts and inspiration will we leave for those who come after us?
