Genesis 18:1-8
Abraham certainly showed generous hospitality to the 3 men who came to him as he was sitting outside his tent. His modest offer of “a little bread” ended up in a wonderful feast. Hospitality to strangers is a key way we are called to be generous. What would it mean in our lives and in the life of this congregation if we were to provide radically generous hospitality to all we met? If you think Abraham was so generous because he knew his visitors were divine, consider these two points:
1. The writer of Hebrews believes Abraham didn’t know. Hebrews 13:2
2. Jesus says all of the “least of these” are embodiments of his presence. Matthew 25:40
Anyway you slice it, generous hospitality is a part of the life of discipleship.
