Matthew 23:1-12
“The Best Teachers Are Lifelong Students” (Jeff Moore, preaching)
I remember, 30 years ago, being enamored with the thought of teaching at the college level. I thought about giving assignments, owning lots of books, the wire-rimmed glasses, even the elbow patches on my jacket! But, of course, those things don’t make one a teacher, learning does. Becoming a teacher requires a lifelong vocation of learning. Jesus reminds us to focus on the teachings, and not just on the teachers. It’s sort of a “do what they say, and not what they do” moment. How might we become better students of these teachings? How can they begin to inhabit our lives in meaningful ways?
