Thank you to all who donated and participated in this year’s CROP Hunger Walk. WGCC was well represented with over 20 participants! Final counts are not in yet, but organizers of the event are hoping to near $20,000 by the time all donations, including online contributions, are in!
Please join with representatives of our congregation and other congregations throughout the St. Louis area for the 2013 CROP Hunger Walk which will take place Sunday, October 13. This year’s location will be at Eden Theological Seminary, 475 E. Lockwood Ave., Webster Groves, Missouri, 63119. Registration for walkers begins at 12:30 pm and all walkers will “step off” together at 1:30 pm after a brief program.
CROP Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local congregations or groups to raise funds to end hunger at home and around the world. The first CROP Walk was held in 1969, and currently over 2,000 communities across the U.S. join in more than 1,600 walks each year. CROP Walks help to provide food and water, as well as development assistance to empower people to meet their own needs.
This year’s St. Louis Metro CROP Walk is an ecumenical, interfaith, and community-wide effort. Walkers obtain financial contributions from sponsors. 75% of the funds will be used internationally and 25% stays in the area to be shared by several local partners. There will be a 1-mile and a 3-mile walk available this year. Walkers are encouraged to bring canned goods which will be donated to area food pantries.
